Enhancing institutional capacity in the area of innovative finance – Digital Finance Academy

Scope of support:

The UKNF is participating in a flagship project of the European Commission: "Digital Finance Academy" as part of the second allocation of the EU Technical Support Instrument (TSI). 

The initiative aims to strengthen the supervisory capacity with respect to innovative digital finance and the use of technology in supervisory activities. Implemented in 2022–2025, the project is in line with the objectives of the EU Digital Finance Strategy and the need to foster the convergence of supervision over the financial sector activities in the EU.

The Digital Finance Academy aims to: 

  • enhance competence, broaden knowledge and improve practical skills of supervisors in the area of innovative digital finance; 
  • support the development of supervisory practices and build the community of and cooperation between experts in the EU;
  • foster the convergence of supervision over the financial sector activities in the EU.

The Academy’s training programme is carried out in cooperation with the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Structural Reform Support, European Supervisory Authorities (EBA, ESMA, EIOPA), and the European University Institute – Florence School of Banking and Finance (EUI-FBF). The lecturers at the Academy include members of the academic staff of the EUI-FBF, experts from the European Commission, EBA, ESMA, EIOPA, international organisations, and the private sector. 

The training programme is to be repeated during three annual editions of the Academy for each group of participants in the years 2022–2025. 26 supervisory authorities from 20 Member States, including the UKNF, have registered for the Academy. 

The project is financed by the European Union under the TSI, in cooperation with the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Structural Reform Support.
