grafika - Watch out for fraudsters using the UKNF’s phone numbers

We keep receiving reports about individuals posing as employees of Urząd Komisji Nadzoru Finansowego (UKNF) and using phone numbers of the UKNF.

The fraudsters use a method called spoofing. Spoofing is a type of attack in which criminals fake the identity of a device  or of another user online in order to steal data, install malicious software or go around access control mechanisms. The predominant spoofing method recently has been to fake the phone number of a bank or a public institution.

REMEMBER! CRIMINALS CAN FAKE ANY PHONE NUMBER.

Let us remind you → Have you picked up a suspicious phone call?

  • Exercise particular caution
  • Do not disclose any details
  • If you are called by a person whose details are shown in a list or website of the KNF, ask the person to clarify on behalf of which entity they are calling
  • Disconnect and call the helpline of the institution to which that person has referred
  • If it is an attempt at fraud, report it immediately to the Police

THE SUPERVISION EXERCISED BY KOMISJA NADZORU FINANSOWEGO (KNF) NEVER INVOLVES PARTICIPATION OF PERSONNEL OF THE UKNF OVER THE PHONE IN DIRECT RELATIONS WITH CLIENTS OR IN FINANCIAL TRANSACTIONS!
