Strengthening the capacity in the area of supervision of the insurance sector as part of the SRSP-EIOPA support

Modification date:

Activity name:
Strengthening the capacity in the area of supervision of the insurance sector.
SRSP-EIOPA Pilot Insurance Training Programme

Scope of support:
As a result of the fourth application procedure under the Structural Reform Support Programme, the Polish Financial Supervision Authority received technical support from the European Commission in the area of strengthening the competences of the employees of the Polish supervisory authority in order to meet new challenges of the insurance sector, as part of the SRSP-EIOPA (European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority) pilot programme on the application of the Solvency II directive. The scope of support covered training workshops provided by EIOPA experts with regard to improved processes and tools of insurance supervision, along with the exchange of experiences in the convergence of supervisory practices.

Given the specific nature of the international project, the detailed scope of training workshops has been developed in the course of further arrangements between the EC and EIOPA and the UKNF (the beneficiary) to adapt the programme to the needs of the Polish supervisor.

The completed training blocks supported the process of updating the model of supervision of insurance and reinsurance undertakings in Poland. The Polish Financial Supervision Authority initiated the process to adapt the supervisory practice to the current state of progress of the insurance market in Poland, considering the experiences in applying the provisions of the Solvency II directive, and to reduce the potential burden for supervised entities.

Specialised training workshops took place in May and June 2021. A total of 69 UKNF employees expanded their knowledge and strengthened their supervisory skills in the area of practical application of the Solvency II directive.

The support was financed from the funds of the European Commission as part of the fourth round of the Structural Reform Support Programme.
