Łukasz Hardt summed up International Risk Management Conference 2026

Łukasz Hardt – Adviser to the Chair of the KNF Board, summed up the International Risk Management Conference 2026 – a conference dedicated to risk management, financial stability, and corporate governance. He gave a lecture titled ‘The Polish Economy: Current Challenges in the Global Context’.

This year’s conference host is the Faculty of Management of the University of Warsaw, and the KNF has assumed patronage of the event. The conference in Warsaw takes place under the theme: ‘Risks, Resilience and Governance in an Uncertain World. Financial Stability in an AI World’ and focuses on (1) the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on the financial system, (2) regulations, and (3) the practice of risk management.

In his lecture, Łukasz Hardt has pointed out that although Poland’s economy is successfully catching up with the richest EU countries in terms of GDP per capita, its current growth model is coming to an end. He emphasised that in the face of the shrinking working-age population, the key is to increase labour efficiency, and this requires raising the level of investments.

Referring to the Polish financial system, he stated that the system’s size – measured by the asset-to-GDP ratio – was smaller than in most EU countries, which restricted the system’s potential to support the economy. Łukasz Hardt stated that banks should include more loans for business in their assets, and the capital market should be more involved in financing the economy.
