Insurance companies with headquarter in Poland - joint-stock companies and mutual insurance societies
Insurance companies branches of EU member states and European Free Trade Agreement (EFTA) member states - parties of European Economic Area (EEA) agreement*
* On May 1, 2004 previous main branches of foreign insurance companies operating in EU member states and European Free Trade Agreement (EFTA) member states - parties of European Economic Area (EEA) agreement gained the status of insurance companies branches of EU member states (and European Free Trade Agreement), on the grounds of Article 243a of the Act of 22 May 2004.
Establishing a branch in Poland is not the necessary condition to conduct insurance activity in Poland by insurance companies from EU member states and European Free Trade Agreement states, which exercise freedom to provide insurance services within the licence gained in the state where their headquarters are based.
